Mineral oil is used as a heat conductor. Since it is incompressible, it is also used in hydraulic drives in cranes and presses, as well as in lubrication. Light types of it are used in the manufacture of fabrics and jute.

It is also used in the cooling of electrical appliances as it is a good insulator of electric current and works to keep water and air away. Therefore, it is frequently used in electrical transformers and high pressure switchgear to prevent random arcs.
