All lubricants consist of “base oil” and “additives”. As for the additives, each of them has a feature and a function. Some of them are technically called “reducers of effusion,” meaning that the produced oil freezes at temperatures lower than those at which it freezes without it. One of these chemicals increases the viscosity of the oil. Including what makes it better resistant to foam in the machines that contain it. Including what increases its resistance to oxidation and rust. Including what prevents equipment wear and tear. Including what disperses sediment and dirt.
It is normal, for example, that metal engines need rust resistance, which is provided by some chemical additives. Also, food processing machines need non-toxic chemicals that act as detergents and do their job during the lubricating process. Thus, each chemical addition to the base oil is created according to the needs of each machine or engine.
Among the most important lubricants are internal combustion engine oils, dual-cycle engines, gearboxes, turbine oils, condensate oils, coolants, metal cutting machines, various industrial oils, in addition to marine oils and those for equipment and aircraft.
